Introducing our department.

The Department of Fine Arts aims to nurture leaders of culture and art in the 21st century through a segmented major curriculum.

<The Department of Contemporary Art>runs regular courses and specialized field-based programs that combine theory and practical skills to nurture all-round art professionals.

<Major in Visual Arts (Webtoon and Animation)>operates specialized regular courses and practical programs for the training of animation directors and webtoon artists.

<Major in Wooden Furniture>operates specialized curricula and individualized, state-of-the-art exploration programs to nurture future-oriented creative talents.

<The Department of Ceramic Art>operates specialized curricula and joint programs with domestic and international professional organizations to nurture talented individuals who can lead the diversity of ceramic art.

Educational Goals

The Department of Fine Arts of the University of Dong-A-A, which opened in 1946, produces talents who will lead the cultural arts of the 21st century based on the academic specialization of each major<contemporary art, video art (webtoon animation), wooden furniture, and ceramics>. The department provides students with a comfortable educational environment and state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to enhance and professionalize their experimentation and creative thinking beyond the boundaries of their majors. In addition, the department is expanding exchanges with overseas universities and networks with domestic and overseas institutions, with the goal of producing creative talents who will be active in culture and the arts in the 21st century.

Introducing Our Department's Distinctive Programs

Distinctive Program

  • Open StudioOpen Studio, a regular program held at the end of each semester, is an on-campus exhibition in which all first through fourth year students of all majors participate. It is also to establish the identity of the major and to form close communication between seniors and juniors.
  • Seokdang Gallery (6th floor exhibition room)The Department of Fine Arts will keep an independent gallery open at all times to extend practical experience to current students and to develop specialized practice through exhibition programs, workshops, and special exhibitions by invited artists in conjunction with classes.
  • Invited lectures by current seniors and domestic/international celebritiesThe department will hold lectures by invited domestic and international artists, exhibition planners, critics, curators, and marketing experts, as well as lectures by invited alumni who are currently working in the field, from time to time to broaden our vision, direction, and human network.
  • On-site PracticumThe Department of Fine Arts' winter/summer field training, conducted at various industrial entities and organizations, provides students with practical expertise related to their major and leads them to choose a tailor-made career path after graduation.
  • Exchanges with overseas universities and domestic organizationsThe Department of Fine Arts will continuously expand international exchanges, and current and former students of the department will conduct exchange programs with art departments in the U.S., France, Germany, Japan, China, and other countries to develop an international mindset. Based on the Busan organization, the department will expand agreements with domestic and international organizations to strengthen the external realm and recognition of the department.

    What do you study and what kind of artwork do you do as a contemporary art major?

    It is as diverse as the individual propensities of different individuals. There are no restrictions on what individual students want to create. You may paint oil paintings using oil paints, Korean paintings using Korean paints, or sculptural works using a variety of materials. You can also freely work in the field of photography/film/installation, etc. You can challenge yourself in various fields outside of your major and practice them to create your own unique works of art You can also obtain a 2nd level art teacher's certificate.

    I am an aspiring webtoon artist, do I have to take animation education as well?

    Character design, scenario, visual storytelling, and digital illustration are common foundational courses for webtoon animation. Students will take the common foundation until their sophomore year, and then choose either the webtoon or animation path starting in their junior year.

    What are the unique strengths of Dong-A University's Wooden Furniture Major?

    Dong-A University's Wooden Furniture major allows students to learn computer programming through CAD classes in order to acquire expertise in creative design and modeling. Classes are taught in a variety of ways, including the use of video design and portfolio production to allow students to express their ideas in unique ways. In addition, students can directly make furniture and accessories they design and experience the characteristics of various materials, allowing them to design at a high level and be creative in their designs.
