Introducing our department.

The architectural education program of University of Dong-A was established in 1955 as the Department of Architecture within the School of Engineering to train personnel for the reconstruction of the nation after the Korean War, and was the first architecture major to be established in the Busan and Gyeongnam area.

The Department of Architecture has produced a large number of excellent graduates who have contributed to society in various fields and positions, and have raised the status of architects in Dong-A. The Department of Architecture is committed to cultivating creative individuals who are interested in cultural development as architects with dignity and can apply academic theories and applied methods.

The Department of Architecture, which started out as an engineering college, was relocated to the University of Design and Environment, which was established to strengthen cooperation between the urban environment and the design part, in response to the demand of the changing times for the importance of integrated education, and has been in operation to this day.

Educational Goals

The educational goal of the Department of Architecture is "to nurture architects who can lead the local community,"and the department educates students to enhance their pride as a leading university in the region and to equip them with the abilities necessary to lead the region in the field of urban architecture. Our values are"field-centered, practice-oriented human resources"who can immediately realize their potential in the field of practice by combining practice and theory, and for this purpose, the department provides an integrated education of practice and theory.

Introducing Our Department's Distinctive Programs

Distinctive Program

  • Overseas InternshipsOverseas internships are offered during summer and winter vacations at world-class companies located in Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, etc. As of June 2023, three students are scheduled to do overseas internships at design firms in the Netherlands and Denmark.
  • Installation of a model roomA model room has been set up where 3D models can be produced using a laser modeling machine connected to a computer. Students can directly build their own models and there is also a studio where they can take photos of their models after they are built.
  • Student ShelterA student shelter was set up between the lecture and practice rooms to create a space where students can interact with each other, take a break, and freely discuss group assignments.
  • LibraryA separate library has been established within the department and is stocked with a variety of materials necessary for students to acquire architecture-related knowledge, including major books and architectural drawings. Group discussions are held in the library from time to time, helping students of various Class of to interact with each other.

    GrimeEstablished in 1988, Grime has been active up to the present. As an architectural planning and designing and sketching club, Grimet supports the improvement of sketching skills through weekly academic sketching activities during the first semester, and at the same time, it serves to deepen the friendship between seniors and juniors who participate in the academic sketching activities. Once a semester, outdoor sketching activities are held at famous places in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do region. As important as sketching is, it is a good opportunity for first, second, and third year students to learn design from start to finish during summer vacation as one team, and seniors and juniors in the same team can form a special relationship. The same team of seniors and juniors form a special relationship. And after the summer vacation is over, an exhibition is held every year under the name of Grimet.

    The Open EndingThis small, small-run architectural book study group aims to develop architectural backgrounds by reading architectural books together and sharing their own opinions.

    What is the difference between the 4-year and 5-year programs?

    The 4-year program is a major to become an interior designer, while the 5-year program is required to obtain a Bachelor of Architecture degree; only students who complete the 5-year program can obtain a Bachelor of Architecture degree in the future.

    The Department of Architecture is a major in which students learn the content necessary for designing buildings, while the Department of Architectural Engineering is a major in which students learn mainly the techniques necessary for constructing buildings.
