Dept. of Electrical Engineering

Introducing our department.

Based on a tradition of more than 50 years, the Department has trained personnel with both basic theory and applied technology related to electric energy, which is the foundation of modern and future society.

The major fields of study are divided into the power system field for the supply and demand of electric energy, the design and control of electric motors that are the driving force of industrial entities, the power electronics field that efficiently controls and converts electric energy using semiconductor devices for electric power, and the control system field for electric and electronic equipment and robots.

In addition, in order to respond to the recent technological changes in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, we train creative personnel who are even competent in related core technologies (IoT, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, etc.).

Educational Goals

The educational objective of the department is to train professional engineers who have mastered basic theory and applied technology in the field of electrical engineering and possess creative technology development skills, design skills, practical skills, and communication skills. In order to achieve these educational objectives, students first develop engineering analysis and understanding skills and lifelong learning abilities based on mathematics, basic science, and basic theories of their major, and then develop design skills, engineering problem recognition, and creative solution skills through deepening knowledge of related majors. In addition, through the planning and execution of team-based experiments and practical training, students will enhance their sense of responsibility through cooperation among team members and cultivate the ability to apply major theories to practical work situations.

Introducing Our Department's Distinctive Programs

Distinctive Program

  • Operation of Electric Motor LaboratoryThe Department operates an electric motor laboratory, which is not found in other electrical engineering departments at other universities in the suburbs. This allows students to experience the theory of electric motors that they have learned in their coursework by actually driving and controlling the motors through experimental classes held in the laboratory.
  • Electrical and Electronic Experiments One experiment per student possibleThe Department has a special experimental environment for the Electrical and Electronic Laboratory I and II lectures taken in the first and second semesters of the sophomore year. Therefore, each student is allowed to conduct one experiment, instead of the conventional four to five students in a group, to cultivate students' experimental learning ability.

Departmental FAQsFeel Free to Ask Anything

  • Q

What is the difference between electrical engineering and electronics engineering?

Both majors are similar in that they both utilize the physical properties of electricity, but electrical engineering approaches its properties from the information transfer/storage aspect, whereas electronics looks at it from the energy aspect and tries to efficiently produce, store, distribute, control and manage it.

  • Q

Do many graduates go on to work in public enterprises?

Compared to other departments, the percentage of graduates entering public enterprises is very high. As you can see from the current status of employment on the department website, many graduates have entered public electric power companies such as Korea Electric Power Corporation, Southeast Power Generation, Korea Electric Power KPS, Korea Electric Power KDN, and Korea Electric Safety Corporation. In addition, many students have entered the energy infrastructure corporations such as Korail, Seoul Transportation Corporation, Busan Transportation Corporation, Busan Facilities Corporation, Busan New Port Corporation, Korea Gas Corporation, and Daehan Oil Pipe Corporation.

  • Q

What is the ratio of H/W to S/W in the department's curriculum?

Due to the nature of the major, much of the curriculum concentrates on H/W (generators, electric motors, converters/inverters, etc.), but artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technology, which are core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, are being integrated into the field of electrical engineering, and more efficient management of power infrastructure and stable production and operation of electrical energy are required. and operation of electric energy in a stable manner. Therefore, various S/W programming courses such as [Coding Basics and Problem Solving] and [Microprocessor Applications and Experiments] are also offered in the department curriculum.
